Planet Word: Spelling Love with Language and Culture

Planet Word is a museum located in the historic Franklin School of Washington D.C. It is a museum dedicated to making learning fun for every age. It provides a deeper understanding of words and languages and an appreciation for cultural diversity.

There are so many different exhibits to explore that captivate the mind. Some of the most popular exhibits include: First Words, The Spoken World, and an enchanted library where books come to life! The Speaking Willow exhibit is especially amazing. It is one of the first exhibits you’ll see upon entering the museum. It’s an interactive art exhibit created by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer.

Planet Word is a nonprofit museum that relies solely on donations. One of their most important contributions to the community is reaching out to children and adults who have limited reading abilities or educational resources as well as to the homeless.

Planet World’s mission statement says:

“Planet Word will inspire and renew a love of words, language, and reading in people of all ages. Through unique, immersive learning experiences, we provide a space to explore words and language that is grounded in a solid understanding of language arts and science.”

Planet Word goes above and beyond its mission by giving back to the community and creating a space where language and diversity are celebrated. Essentially, they communicate “love” through language and culture.
